Can I bring my phone on camp?
Holiday camp is proudly tech-free. We ask that campers leave phones, tablets, and other devices at home to enjoy a screen-free environment focused on nature and friendships.
How do you handle safety?
We take safety very seriously, all staff hold valid Working With Children checks and are trained in camp safety protocols. Every activity is risk-assessed, and if weather or conditions are unsafe, the program will be modified or alternative activities used. We also run our camps within a child-safe framework and operate under standard duty of care practices.
How do you handle supervision?
Each cabin or group of campers is assigned a dedicated team of counsellors who provides pastoral care and oversight. During all activities, qualified staff or instructors lead with strict adult supervision ratios to maintain safety and engagement. Staff sleep in campers’ rooms quarters, ensuring boundaries and oversight remain clear.
Can campers contact their families during camp?
Camps are designed to help children build independence, so campers do not usually contact families during their stay. In the event of an emergency, staff will reach out directly to parents or guardians.
What should campers pack for Summer Camp?
Campers should bring a full set of lightweight, breathable clothes including shorts, t-shirts, a hat, swimmers, and a towel. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and a water bottle are essential, as well as sturdy closed-toe shoes for walking. A small daypack, light jacket, and sleepwear completes the camping kit. I’m 14, which camp is appropriate for me? Summer/Winter Camp or Summer/Winter Camp OUT?
This is a personal choice. 14yo can choose either the residential Summer/Winter Camp or the more challenging Camp OUT. If you have been on camp previously it is a nice way to step and challenge yourself, but you might also prefer to wait until you are 15.
Do you cater for dietary requirements and allergies?
Yes, we happily cater for a wide range of dietary needs, including gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian. Our menus are nut-free, and we ask that families note any requirements during registration so we can prepare accordingly.
What’s the food like?
We provide hearty, home-cooked meals that are both delicious and healthy, with fresh fruit always available. Meals are balanced to give campers the energy they need for full days of activities.
What’s the difference between Residential Camp, Base Camp and Journey Camp?
Residential camp involves sleeping in cabins, with meals provided in the dining hall and access to bathrooms and showers. Base Camp and Journey Camp means sleeping in tents, cooking meals outdoors, and using bush toilets, with facilities varying by location. Some camps may also include a one-night “camp out” alongside a residential stay for variety.
Are you covered by insurance?
Yes, Cave Hill Creek and Silverband Lodge holds public liability insurance of $30 million. A copy of our insurance certificate is available on request for schools and group organisers
