A birthday celebration like no other at Sovereign Hill

If you’re visiting Cave Hill Creek, a trip to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat is well worth adding to your itinerary. Located less than an hour from camp, Sovereign Hill brings Australia’s gold rush era to life with costumed characters, horse-drawn vehicles, gold panning, underground mine tours, fascinating demonstrations and plenty of hands-on experiences for all ages.

Recently, Ange and Emma were lucky enough to be invited to a very special celebration, the birthday party for Sovereign Hill’s beloved horse team!

Held on 1 August, the afternoon began with a behind-the-scenes visit to the stables, where we met the magnificent Clydesdales and learned more about the important role they play in bringing Sovereign Hill’s historic streets to life. The horses were the stars of the show, and rightly so.

After singing Happy Birthday, everyone enjoyed a delightful celebration complete with live music, delicious cake and old-fashioned raspberry drops. The horses weren’t left out either, receiving their own special birthday treats!

To top off a wonderful afternoon, we climbed aboard a traditional horse and cart for a ride through Sovereign Hill’s historic streets. It was a fantastic experience and a reminder of just how much there is to see and do at this iconic Victorian attraction.

A huge thank you to the team at Sovereign Hill for hosting such a memorable event. If you’re planning a stay at Cave Hill Creek, we highly recommend making time to visit. It’s a wonderful day out and a chance to experience a fascinating part of Australia’s history.
